Learning Outcome 2

To use authors to create evidence for my argument, I needed to be sure that the evidence I used was provided correctly. Along with the correctness of my citations, I needed to make sure that I stated my evidence correctly. To do this I had to give a brief introduction to the quote, state the quote, then give an explanation to the quote that I was providing. I was able to select quotes based off of the argument that I was giving. In the first paper, I was not fully aware of the fact that we had to do this process to correctly use evidence from the authors. I remembered reading about it in “Emerging” when we discussed Barclay’s formula, but it slipped my mind to use this formula to help with quoting. I realized that I needed to use this after my professor commented this on my first paper. After the first paper I believe that I was able to confidently choose a quote and do all of the above. An example of this is when I was arguing that the human race, is all one and the same. We are all human and there are things that we can do, together, to fix the issue at hand, which was the working conditions in overseas factories. To show this, I used a quote from Kwame Anthony Appiah, who was the author of Cosmopolitan, which included two chapters which consisted of “Making Conversation” and the “Primacy of Practice”. The quote I used stated a way to fix the issue with globalization, I said, “Appiah said, “Together, we can raise standards of living by adopting new policies on trade and aid, prevent or treat diseases with vaccines and pharmaceuticals, takes measures against global climate change, encourage resistance to tyranny and a concern for the worth of human life” (Appiah 45)” I will also provide a picture where you can see my introduction of the quote and my explanation of the quote. Therefore, from the first paper to my final paper, I was able to increase my ability to integrate significant quotes from the text into my papers to strengthen my argument.
