Learning Outcome 5

To gain a decent grade on the papers that we completed in ENG 110, you have to at least know how to properly cite your sources. Without citing sources, there is no work cited page, meaning that you just plagiarized which can get you into serious trouble. We learned how to do this in the “Little Seagull” book we were required to buy for this course, which was very helpful in the citation process. We had to make work cited pages for all of our papers, below is an example of the one we made for our final paper. Every time that we used a quote or information that we would not get on our own, we are required to site the source. After each quote or the information used, you need to put the author in parentheses then put the period. Revising your own work is never the easiest thing to do, but we learned that printing it out and rereading what you wrote and making corrections with a red pen is useful. It helps you pin-point out grammatical errors such as incorrect punctuation, run-on sentences, and comma splices. I would read my essays multiple times before turning them in and specifically look for those grammatical errors. My first draft had multiple errors that I was unaware of, but progressing through the course it became easier to control our sentences, which resulted in less revision because those errors did not occur as often. Therefore, I believe that throughout the course I grew as a writer, because I knew what to look out for and how to avoid making errors grammatically.
